Market mornings, flower-filled rooms, van upgrades and the beautiful moments that make it all worthwhile.
Hello flower lovers,
Spring wedding season has well and truly arrived, and the past few weeks have been filled with flowers, early mornings and some truly beautiful celebrations.
When you see wedding flowers, you usually see the finished bouquet, the perfectly styled table or the ceremony installation waiting for the couple to arrive. What you do not always see is everything that happens before that moment.
There are colour palettes to refine, seasonal availability to consider, quantities to calculate and flowers to source, sometimes across several market visits. Then every stem is conditioned and prepared before the designing can begin.
For one particularly full wedding week, my order occupied three entire market trolleys. Seeing “House of Hydrangeas Trolley 2 of 3” written on the collection label was a fairly accurate indication of what was about to unfold!
Flowers may need to be wired or supported, ceremony arrangements are built piece by piece, and every bouquet, ribbon and boutonnière is checked before it leaves the studio.
THE PART YOU DO NOT SEE
Flowers Everywhere
On particularly busy weeks, the studio expands into almost every available part of the house. Flowers fill the workbench, buckets line the floor and completed arrangements wait wherever they can be kept cool and safe. Once a large arrangement is finished, it still needs to travel safely through the house and into the van. The recent custom shelving has created more usable space and considerably less van Tetris.
WHEN IT ALL COMES TOGETHER
After the market runs, the conditioning, the wiring and the packing of the van, everything finally leaves the studio and becomes part of someone’s day. Those trolleys and buckets turn into arbours, bouquets and ceremony pieces, and every early morning suddenly feels worthwhile.
Courtney and Sam
And then there is the moment that makes all of the early mornings, buckets and ladders worthwhile.
Courtney and Sam were married at Wallarobba in a beautiful country celebration surrounded by soft white flowers, fresh greenery and masses of delicate baby’s breath.
Their asymmetrical timber arbour was created on site and became the perfect frame for their ceremony, and for this gorgeous moment as newlyweds.
It is always incredibly special seeing flowers move from buckets at the market, to the workbench, to the place where a couple begins their married life.

Tish and Nathan
BOLD MODERN AND BEAUTIFULLY DRAMATIC
Deep burgundy, crisp white, sculptural anthuriums and cascading orchids came together for Tish and Nathan’s unforgettable celebration at Leaves and Fishes.
This wedding was particularly meaningful for me. I had previously created flowers for Tish’s hens celebration and have had the joy of creating flowers for her mum, Sharon, on several occasions.
Their full story, and the beautiful personal touches behind the flowers, is now available on the website.
